In Part 6 of the tutorial, we are going to try out 5 more Classic Controllers.

Change the Based On property to Gradient Map - Value/Overlay (Shift).

Select the program's Properties page and change Color Scheme to 4 Bars - Gold, Silver, Bronze, Silver.

Execute the Display Fractal command on the Tools menu of the Fractal Window to generate the fractal image.

Fractal (Gradient Map - Value/Overlay (Shift))

This controller's default setting yields a result similar to the Gradient Map - Binary Decomposition controller we saw in Part 4 but we can change the Overlay mapping as illustrated below to produce a very different result.

Select the program's Properties page and change Color Scheme to 4 Bars - Teal, Alice Blue, Midnight Blue, Alice Blue, and in the Overlay section change Overlay to Alternate 1 Value and Factor to 8.

Execute the Display Fractal command on the Tools menu of the Fractal Window to generate the fractal image.

Fractal (Gradient Map - Value/Overlay (Shift))

Factor can be used to increase/decrease the density of the overlay pattern.

Select the program's Properties page and change Color Scheme to 4 Bars - Steel Blue, Silver, Dark Magenta, Silver, and in the Overlay section change Overlay to Alternate 2 Value. The value of Factor should remain 8.

Execute the Display Fractal command on the Tools menu of the Fractal Window to generate the fractal image.

Fractal (Gradient Map - Value/Overlay (Shift))

Select the program's Properties page and change Color Scheme to 4 Bars - Royal Blue, Ivory, Brown, Ivory, and in the Overlay section change Overlay to Alternate 2 Angle (Bounce). The value of Factor should remain 8.

Execute the Display Fractal command on the Tools menu of the Fractal Window to generate the fractal image.

Fractal (Gradient Map - Value/Overlay (Shift))

Other combinations of data mappings for Value and/or Overlay are also possible but let's move on.

Next, change the Based On property to Gradient Map - Color Blend.

Select the program's Properties page and change Color Scheme to 3 Colors - Red Wine and Value to Alternate 2 Value in the Value 1 section. Then change Color Scheme to 3 Colors - Dark Sunset in the Value 2 section.

Execute the Display Fractal command on the Tools menu of the Fractal Window to generate the fractal image.

Fractal (Gradient Map - Color Blend)

You need to play with this controller to get nice results but it is usually worth it. Try different Blend Type settings and then adjust the Value 1 and Value 2 settings until you get a nice result.

Next, change the Based On property to Direct Color Map - RGB.

Select the program's Properties page and change Offset to -0.5 in the Blue Mapping section.

Execute the Display Fractal command on the Tools menu of the Fractal Window to generate the fractal image.

Fractal (Direct Color Map - RGB)

Next, change the Based On property to Direct Color Map - RGB Blend.

Select the program's Properties page and change Blend Type to Burn.

Execute the Display Fractal command on the Tools menu of the Fractal Window to generate the fractal image.

Fractal (Direct Color Map - RGB Blend)

When using the Direct Color Map controllers, it is virtually impossible to predict what different combinations of settings will yield. It is best to just start making changes to the properties and regenerating the image until you find something you like.
